a couple contacting teena for a free consultation

A first conversation about you, your relationship, and the way forward.

What to Expect During Your Consultation

First, I’m glad you reached out.

Most couples contact me after months, sometimes years, of trying to solve their problems on their own. By the time they schedule a consultation, they’re often feeling discouraged, disconnected, or unsure whether meaningful change is still possible.

If that’s where you are, you’re in familiar company. Most couples feel exactly this way before the work begins. We’ll meet by secure video for thirty minutes. You’ll get a link in your confirmation email.

What we’ll discuss

Our call is a focused conversation. We’ll cover:

  • What’s bringing you to therapy now
  • The challenges you’re currently facing
  • What you’ve already tried
  • What you hope will be different in your relationship
  • Whether we’re a good fit to begin working together

This is also your chance to ask questions and get a sense of how I work.

How I work

For 17 years, I’ve worked exclusively with couples.

I help partners move beyond recurring conflict, emotional distance, betrayal, and disconnection by understanding the patterns that keep them stuck, and by building new ways of relating that foster trust, intimacy, and real partnership.

My work is informed by attachment science, neuroscience, PACT®, TCT®, and trauma-informed approaches. Most importantly, it is focused on lasting change rather than temporary relief.

What happens next

If it feels like a good fit, every couple I work with begins with the Relationship Roadmap: a single three-hour session where we build an accurate, shared picture of how the two of you actually operate together. At the end of it, I’ll give you a clear recommendation, either ongoing couples therapy or a Marriage Intensive.

On our call, we’ll determine whether we’re a good fit. If we are, we’ll schedule your Relationship Roadmap while we’re still on the phone.

Before we meet

Take a few moments to consider:

  • What has been most difficult in your relationship recently?
  • What would you most like to see change?
  • What would a good outcome look like for both of you?

There are no right or wrong answers. Nothing needs to be written down.

Common Questions

Do we both need to be on the call?

Yes. This work involves both of you from the very first conversation, and I want to hear from each of you directly. If you can be in the same room and on camera together, that’s ideal. It lets me see how you interact, which tells me a great deal in a short time.

How do we join?

You’ll receive a secure video link in your confirmation email and again in a reminder the day before. No app or account needed. Just click the link.

How long is the consultation?

Thirty minutes by video. It’s enough time to understand your situation and determine fit.

Is there a cost?

No. The consultation is complimentary. Fees for the Relationship Roadmap, ongoing couples therapy, and Marriage Intensives are listed on these pages.

Do you take insurance?

I’m a private-pay practice. This allows me to work without diagnostic requirements or session limits imposed by an insurance company, and to structure the work around what your relationship actually needs.

Can we work together if we're not in Boulder?

Yes. I see couples in person in Boulder and by telehealth throughout the state.

What if only one of us is sure about this?

That’s common, and it isn’t a disqualifier. Bring it to the call. Ambivalence is workable. What matters is that you both show up.

I look forward to meeting you and learning more about your relationship.

Warmly, Teena Evert, MA, LMFT, BCC
